My Mental and Spiritual Detox Tips

Shutting my mind so my spirit can thrive

Anyone who knows me knows I’m not lacking in oodles of spirit! I move a mile a minute and my world is full on and exciting and full of beautiful people. Never once do I take any of it for granted, but every now and again, I catch myself caught up in a whirlwind. At this point, I know it’s time to stop and make sure I’m spiritually and emotionally in touch with my spirit and that it’s not being contaminated with toxic surroundings, situations, thoughts or people. This is my time for a mental and spiritual detox.

To be good at what I do…to be a good wife, mother and business leader, I practice what I preach! I try to practice self-care and I nurture my spirit every day in some way for an ongoing spiritual detox. Because I do, I then feel equipped to nurture the people around me. Trust me on this too…I pick those people VERY carefully.

So here are my top tips for a mental and spiritual detox:

1. Connect with animals and nature

Every day I go for a walk or run and I literally have to force myself to stop and ‘smell the roses’. Did you know that if you look hard enough inside every flower is another tiny flower ready to bloom? I force myself to stop and be ‘mindful’ (buzz word alert) every day and if I didn’t I would never stop moving.

2. Decontaminate my space

Every now and again ask yourself…who are the spirits hanging around me and I know it’s also a bit of a ‘buzz word’ at the moment, but if you haven’t heard of gaslighting PLEASE educate yourself! Gaslighters are manipulators that make you doubt yourself and as a result you can lose your healthy sense of identity and self-worth. Chances are you have at least one of these people in your life right now…CUT THEM LOOSE! I’m serious.

3. Shut off social media

Guilty as charged. I’m on social media a lot – usually on instagram letting my mind go wild with ideas, but even I recognise the importance of shutting off for a detox, and the rest of my family have to do it too. As I manifest the UFC wrestler inside me and wrangle the electronic devices from the hands of my girls I preach the importance of being in the moment without distractions. I shut my mind so my spirit can thrive.

4. Pray

Yes pray. Every single day I give it all over and I unload to a higher power. I am a big believer in taking nothing for granted. I am always grateful for the beauty in my life.

5. Love myself

I know I’m not perfect, and I’ve made mistakes in my life and trusted people I probably shouldn’t have, but most importantly I own it all. I am what I am and I love it all.

I believe we are all here to be the best version of ourselves. Nurture and feed your ‘spirit’. Furthermore, protect it from anything toxic and take a mental and spiritual detox when you need it!
