Gold Coast mums unite to spread organic awareness and convince more of the population to re-visit organics.
No longer just a passing hippy fad, the organic movement is here to stay. Organic foods are simply foods without multiple toxic sprays. As demand continues to grow for organic options, the more affordable it’s becoming.
Sonya Driver, Founder of Gold Coast based global business, Eco Tan, recently paid a visit to local business owner, Bec from ‘A Life to Live’. A Life to Live are located in Varsity Lakes on the Gold Coast and deliver organic food boxes to your home. Sonya wanted to gather easy organic tips and knowledge to share with her eco-aware audience for Organic Awareness Month.
GOLD COAST MUMS SPREADING ORGANIC AWARENESS
Sonya and Bec are both inspirational forerunners in health and organic products. They were also both single mums who worked hard to build their own futures. All while providing affordable alternatives for organic living.
Sonya started Eco Tan eight years ago with the first ever certified organic tanning product in Australia. She has since grown this little Gold Coast tan business into a global empire. Eco Tan now includes a large range of products including body care, natural sun care and soon to launch organic skin care.
A SHARED PASSION
When Sonya met Bec through a friend their shared passion and life journey created an immediate connection. Inspired by Bec’s simple concept of delivering fresh organic food to your doorstep, Sonya has been a loyal customer ever since. Bec is passionate about families changing the way they eat, and ditching all processed foods. Did you know that of the 8000 pesticides registered for use in Australian agriculture over 80 are banned in Europe?! It’s a frightening statistic. But when you can buy a large head of organic broccoli for only $2.05, now is clearly the time for people to re-consider organic eating.
SET FOR EXPANSION
Bec is in the midst of opening a chain of affordable toxic free organic fruit, vegetable and coffee stores across the Gold Coast. With her sights set on expanding to Sydney, there is no stopping super-woman Bec from spreading her organic awareness message far and wide.
Bravo to these passionate eco-crusaders. They continue to educate and create an eco-friendly and organically aware world…one broccoli at a time!
My Mental and Spiritual Detox Tips
Shutting my mind so my spirit can thrive
Anyone who knows me knows I’m not lacking in oodles of spirit! I move a mile a minute and my world is full on and exciting and full of beautiful people. Never once do I take any of it for granted, but every now and again, I catch myself caught up in a whirlwind. At this point, I know it’s time to stop and make sure I’m spiritually and emotionally in touch with my spirit and that it’s not being contaminated with toxic surroundings, situations, thoughts or people. This is my time for a mental and spiritual detox.
To be good at what I do…to be a good wife, mother and business leader, I practice what I preach! I try to practice self-care and I nurture my spirit every day in some way for an ongoing spiritual detox. Because I do, I then feel equipped to nurture the people around me. Trust me on this too…I pick those people VERY carefully.
So here are my top tips for a mental and spiritual detox:
1. Connect with animals and nature
Every day I go for a walk or run and I literally have to force myself to stop and ‘smell the roses’. Did you know that if you look hard enough inside every flower is another tiny flower ready to bloom? I force myself to stop and be ‘mindful’ (buzz word alert) every day and if I didn’t I would never stop moving.
2. Decontaminate my space
Every now and again ask yourself…who are the spirits hanging around me and I know it’s also a bit of a ‘buzz word’ at the moment, but if you haven’t heard of gaslighting PLEASE educate yourself! Gaslighters are manipulators that make you doubt yourself and as a result you can lose your healthy sense of identity and self-worth. Chances are you have at least one of these people in your life right now…CUT THEM LOOSE! I’m serious.
3. Shut off social media
Guilty as charged. I’m on social media a lot – usually on instagram letting my mind go wild with ideas, but even I recognise the importance of shutting off for a detox, and the rest of my family have to do it too. As I manifest the UFC wrestler inside me and wrangle the electronic devices from the hands of my girls I preach the importance of being in the moment without distractions. I shut my mind so my spirit can thrive.
Yes pray. Every single day I give it all over and I unload to a higher power. I am a big believer in taking nothing for granted. I am always grateful for the beauty in my life.
5. Love myself
I know I’m not perfect, and I’ve made mistakes in my life and trusted people I probably shouldn’t have, but most importantly I own it all. I am what I am and I love it all.
I believe we are all here to be the best version of ourselves. Nurture and feed your ‘spirit’. Furthermore, protect it from anything toxic and take a mental and spiritual detox when you need it!
Shine on xx
When I first started Eco Tan I would stand in my kitchen with my formulation book (exercise book from Kmart) and measure organic ingredients from my lab equipment bought from ebay.
I knew my little batches were as pure as I could possibly make them. The problem was that no one knew about them. Luckily, I have a little hustle in me and my persistence and nagging paid off.
I know there are other incredible products, cosmetic, food, etc out there that we don’t hear about. It is one of my passions to find the gold and give it life!
I picked up an all-natural coconut lip balm one day at a local beach shop….and I was instantly blown away….but I digress. Let me take you back a little….
I actually started a distribution company in NZ a few years back – on top of running Eco Tan AND trying to keep up with my girls (I’m exhausted just thinking about it!). Anyway, I would hand pick products I loved personally and I would organize a way to get them out to the masses. In my travels I still remember meeting the gentle spirited Anca, creator of Metta balms, at an organic trade show in Victoria. I instantly fell in love with her company’s values and her small batch of insanely divine products and I knew I needed to get her gorgeous balms into the hands of others.
Funnily enough around that same time I was also distributing a popular lip balm from the states… but let me tell you it doesn’t even get close to measuring up to our little Glory Lips.
Glory Lips are literally hand crafted especially for us. I found a brilliant woman who meticulously batches them (she has a Medical background) and asked her to make our Glory Lips bigger and better than the others ….and to make it vegan (of course). After many, many months of development – Glory Lips was born!
It’s the number 1 product that my daughters take to all their friends and in a nut shell Glory Lips is freakin divine! Made with organic mango butter, organic olive oil, vitamin E, organic coconut oil…. nothing artificial. This lip balm is seriously a must have and I never ever leave home without adding it to even my tiniest of handbags!!
We’re often asked why our stockists can’t purchase it and at this stage the truth is that it’s bloody expensive to create…. so the price would be really high. Good news though, it’s available exclusively on our website www.ecotan.com.au
Ps. Please let me know your thoughts! I would love to hear your feedback on what you think of Glory Lips!
